Just like with the other crochet patterns in the Radiance Bath Set, this eco friendly crochet hand towel pattern was designed to be soft and have texture to bring in the luxury feeling. The puff stitches and raised lines add a lovely texture and interesting feel, while the soft cotton yarn makes this make a winner from the get-go.

For this crochet bath set, I’ve specifically chosen my favorite soft cotton yarn – I Love This Cotton. A lot of the cotton yarns you can purchase on the market start out rough and scratchy, with the promise that they will “soften up” after a few washes. That can be fine for other projects, but for something as useful and necessary to a self-care routine, you want soft yarn that you like the feeling of from the start.

When I was inspired to make a crochet bath set of patterns, I really wanted to include a pretty crochet hand towel pattern. A hand towel is an understated yet important item in the bathroom. While most of the items in the set focus on a self-care routine, I think your every day hand washing counts as self-care, too (Especially with the way the past year has been). There’s nothing worse than drying off your hands on a towel that doesn’t feel nice. Especially if you have sensitive skin like I do.
I wanted to design a crochet hand towel pattern that is not only pretty, but also does the job it’s meant to do. Our bathroom utensils don’t need to be drab and boring, after all. That’s why I designed this hand towel to have big blocks of solid stitches for drying, split up by rows of puff stitches for a little hand massage while doing so.
One of the major plus sides to this crochet hand towel pattern (as well as the other portions of this bath set that have been released or will be released) is that it is designed using 100% cotton yarn. This means that this crochet towel will stand up to heavy washing, which is necessary for anything you use on your skin. Especially for items that are typically left in the bathroom for multiple uses like a hand towel, it must be able to be washed and dried to keep it clean and you healthy.

If you’d like a photo tutorial to walk you through the rows, I would recommend the inexpensive PDF. It’s 8 pages long, with photos of the more intricate parts, photos for how to work the special stitches and photos for what the crochet hand towel should look like after each row. The printer friendly version is only 3 pages to save on ink!
SKILL LEVEL
Advanced Beginner – This pattern requires more intermediate stitches such as puff stitches and working in the 3rd loop of half double crochet. This pattern is worked entirely in rows, with the exception of the final border.
MATERIALS
Medium (4) weight cotton yarn. You will need only one color.
You will need approximately 4 oz / 114g / 206 yards per crochet hand towel made.
I used I Love This Cotton in Rosy. You can use any cotton yarn you prefer. I Love This Cotton is 100% cotton and is very soft for cotton yarn, so I use it for most bath items.

GAUGE
17 dc x 8 rows = 4 inches by 4 inches.
Gauge isn’t extremely important, as your hand towel will work regardless of its size.
I am generally a “tight” crocheter, so my gauge is typically very tight compared to others. In terms of this hand towel, you should not have an issue as it doesn’t require a specific size. However, I wanted to include this note just for reference.
FINISHED SIZE
Approximately 12 inches wide by 16 inches long as written in the pattern.
You can customize this as you see fit. You can change the width by working more or less stitches and change the length by working more or less pattern repeats.

NOTES
- This pattern is part of the Radiance Bath Set.
- This hand towel is worked back and forth in rows.
- Chain 1 and Chain 2 at the beginning of rows do not count as stitches. Always place your first stitch of the row in the same stitch you chained out of.
- Chain 3 counts as both a double crochet and a chain 1. This means that you should consider the first stitch of the row worked.
- This pattern requires an odd amount of stitches to work properly. If you decide to change the width of the hand towel, please make sure you have an odd amount of stitches.
- You can alter the length of the hand towel if you prefer. Repeat the instructed rows more or less times to change the length.
- Stitch counts are referenced at the end of each round in parentheses and italics (#).
- Repeats are listed in brackets [ ].
SPECIAL STITCHES
Special Stitch – Hdc3lo
The half double crochet has a “3rd loop” which is created by the yarn over before inserting your hook into your stitch. This 3rd loop is facing you when working in rows. To work a “hdc3lo” or half double crochet in the 3rd loop only, you will ignore the top of the half double crochet, and instead work only in the 3rd loop which is directly below the top of the stitch.
Special Stitch – Puff Stitch
This pattern uses a puff stitch. Puff stitches are worked in a few different ways – so it is important to know which puff stitch to use.
For the purposes of this pattern, we will be working with a closed puff stitch.
To work this puff stitch, you will: [Yarn over and insert your hook into the indicated stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop.] Repeat inside of the brackets 2 more times in the same stitch. You should now have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through 6 of the 7 loops. 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 2.
How to Make the Radiant Crochet Hand Towel
Row 1: Foundation Double Crochet 47 stitches OR ch 49, dc in 3rd ch from hook and each across. (47)
Rows 2 through 4 – Ch 2, turn. Place 1 dc in each st across. (47)
Row 5 – Ch 1, turn. Place 1 hdc in each st across. (47)
Row 6 – Ch 1, turn. Place 1 hdc3lo in each st across. (47)
Row 7 – Ch 3, turn. Sk 1 st, [puff st next. Ch 1, sk 1] Repeat inside brackets until 2 sts remain. 1 dc last st. (23 ch 1 spcs, 22 puff sts, 2 dc = 47)
Row 8 – Ch 1, turn. Place 1 sc in each st and ch 1 spc across. (47) *Your last sc should be in the 2nd ch of the ch 3 that started Row 7.
Row 9 – Ch 1, turn. Place 1 sc in each st across. (47)
Row 10 – Ch 3, turn. Sk 1 st, [puff st next. Ch 1, sk 1] Repeat inside brackets until 2 sts remain. 1 dc last st. (23 ch 1 spcs, 22 puff sts, 2 dc = 47)
Row 11 – Ch 1, turn. Place 1 hdc in each st and ch 1 spc across. (47) *Your last hdc should be in the 2nd ch of the ch 3 that started Row 10.
Row 12 – Ch 1, turn. Place 1 hdc3lo in each st across. (47)
Rows 13 through 16 – Ch 2, turn. Place 1 dc in each st across. (47)
For Rows 17 through 40, repeat Rows 5 through 16 two more times. Once completed, you should have 4 sets of solid double crochet rows divided by 3 sets of the textured puff stitch rows.
Do not trim yarn, move directly to working the border.
Border
Ch 1, turn. Place 1 single crochet in each st across to the end of the row.
At the end, ch 2 and turn your work 90 degrees to work along the long edge. Place single crochets across this side as evenly as possible.
You will want to place 1 single crochet in the side of each single crochet and half double crochet, and 2 single crochet in the side of each dc.
At the end, ch 2 and work 1 single crochet in each stitch across the bottom. At the end, ch 2 and place single crochets across the last side as evenly as possible as we did previously.
Once complete, ch 2, sl st to the first sc to close. Trim your yarn and weave in your ends.
Your hand towel is complete!
You will likely want to block the hand towel into shape. Pin your hand towel to a blocking board as straight as you can and spritz with water until fairly saturated. Leave pinned in place until fully dry.
You can repeat blocking at any point after washing the hand towel if you prefer.
