Sylvie Blanket Square

Perfect on it’s own or with other squares, this crochet blanket square features a modified granny stitch to celebrate the granny stitch with a little added texture for visual and touchable interest.

This image shows a finished sample made in an off-white yarn from this crochet blanket square pattern. The image shows the granny square laid flat on a round placemat made of natural fibers.

Designed for the 2024 Granny Blanket CAL hosted by Debbie of Madame Stitch, the Sylvie Crochet Blanket Square is a beautiful, slightly textured square featuring clusters of double crochets and front post stitches with a slightly lacy look.

Created to match the size of other squares in the CAL as well as feature the granny stitch, this crochet blanket square is incredibly simple to crochet but is gorgeous in it’s textured finish.

What is the Granny Blanket CAL?

The 2024 Granny Blanket CAL is a crochet-a-long hosted by Debbie of Madame Stitch. This blanket is made of 12 squares, all of which feature the Granny Stitch in some way. The squares will be seamed together to create a gorgeous, granny stitch themed blanket.

Each of the 12 squares are released one by one, each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, giving you time to crochet each square.

Each of the squares is free to use on the designers blog or, if you prefer to work from PDF patterns, I highly recommend the bundle of patterns for this blanket.

You could purchase each pattern individually if you wanted to but those little costs will add up to more than the bundle is sold for. If you want PDFs for all of the patterns, I highly recommend the bundle.

Don’t forget to check out all the other fantastic patterns that are a part of this event by heading to the main event page! Patterns are released each Monday, Wednesday and Friday until all 12 squares, the seaming instructions and the border have been released.

Love this crochet blanket square but want to use it for something else?

You’re more than welcome to!

The great thing about crochet squares is they can be used for almost anything you think of regardless of why they were designed.

I will be making washcloths from this pattern with cotton yarn for my own home because I just love the textured feeling of it.

You can do the same or you can use it for something totally different! 🙂

SKILL LEVEL

Advanced Beginner. Crocheters looking to follow this pattern should know how to:

PATTERN NOTES

  • Please read all notes, including special notes, before starting this pattern.
  • Chain 1 and Chain 2 to start a new row do not count as stitches. This means you will place your first stitch of the row in the very first stitch.
  • Row 1 when completed will curve and seem less wide than the following rows. This is the nature of skipping chains and will look correct after a few rows.
  • “3 dc next st” means to place a total of 3 double crochet in the indicated stitch.
  • Make sure you are skipping the correct stitch. When we place multiple stitches into one stitch (Example: 3 dc in next st), these can cover the next stitch. Push these 3 dc to the side if needed.
  • The stitch multiple for this pattern is a multiple of 4 stitches + 1 stitch + 2 turning chains. Add or remove 4 from the starting chains to make the square more or less wide.
